How to Measure Cowboy Hat Size Correctly

Finding the right size cowboy hat is important for comfort and style. A hat that is too tight or loose might move around or fall off.
The good news is that you can measure your cowboy hat size at home. All you need is a soft measuring tape, or if you don’t have one, just use a piece of string and a ruler.
Whether you’re shopping for a cowboy hat with a classic design or a disco cowboy hat that sparkles and sparkles, measuring your head size can make online shopping easier.
What You Need to Measure Your Hat Size
Before you start, get these basics prepared: A soft measuring tape A mirror Pen and paper or your phone String and ruler if you do not have a measuring tape. Flexible measuring tapes are the easiest as they mold to your head.
Step 1: Find Where Your Hat Will Sit
Stand in front of a mirror and place the measuring tape around your head. Place the tape around the area of your head where the hat rests. For most people, that is an inch above the eyebrows and slightly above the ears. Hold the tape flat as you move it around your head. It should follow the natural curve of your head, not angled.
Step 2: Wrap the Tape Around Your Head
Wrap the tape around your back of your head. Bring it to the front of your face.
Take care with the tape. It should not be pulled tight, as in too tight to press into your skin.
The tape may be loose, which will make your measurement larger than your actual head size. If it is tight, you may have to purchase a hat that is uncomfortable.
Start by measuring your normal head circumference.
Step 3: Record Your Measurement
Look at the point where the two ends of the tape meet.
If you can, record the measurement in inches and in centimeters. Knowing both measurements is helpful when shopping from different stores because their sizing may differ.
Thus, your waist is approximately 22 inches or 56 centimeters.
Do not be alarmed if your measurement is not yet a size hat. Try it on and compare it with a size chart.
What If You Don’t Have a Measuring Tape?
You can still measure your head without a tape measure.
Take a piece of string, ribbon or another material that is flexible and wrap it around your head in the same position.
Mark where the string meets the board. Then lay the string flat and measure it with a ruler.
Be sure not to stretch the string too much when measuring your head. If you have a snug, comfortable measurement, you will get a better result.
Step 4: Check the Hat Size Chart
Once you have your head measurement, compare your measurement to the size chart from the store or brand.
Different brands may use different sizing systems. Some hats are listed as Small, Medium, Large or Extra Large and others have more traditional sized hats such as 7, 7 1/8, or 7 1/4.
Common Cowboy Hat Size Measurements
Cowboy hats can use both inches and centimeters when showing measurements.
Here is a simple example of how measurements may look:
| Head Circumference | Approximate Hat Size |
| 21 inches | Small |
| 22 inches | Medium |
| 23 inches | Large |
| 24 inches | Extra Large |
